Description
The most popular cultivar in the US and can be grown in almost any state. This cold hardy Asian Pear ripens mid Sept. The fruit is medium to large, yellow, round, crisp, sweet & juicy with very refreshing, aromatic flavor and are best eaten fresh after being chilled. It ripens to a softer, but still firm texture after many months in cold storage. Tree is vigorous, is resistant to black spot & scab and is a cross between Nijiesiki and Chojuro. It is extremely productive and is precocious (2-3 years). Good keeper. It originated in Japan. Herdy.
Asian Pear species description: Asian Pear is drought tolerant. USDA Hardiness Zones: 5-9. Asian Pears do great in the Pacific Northwest. Grafted onto appropriate vigorous rootstocks, an Asian pear can be prolific producers in our soil and climate. Cultivars are classified in two groups. Most of the cultivars belong to the Akanashi (‘Russet pears’) group, and have yellowish-brown rinds. The Aonashi (‘Green pears’) have yellow-green rinds.
