Description

This heart shaped delight ripens unevenly, which is perfect for home gardeners. Also called 13S-22-8, this late season, fresh eating Sweet Cherry ripens 20 days after Bing and is also good for preserves, baking, canning & freezing. The fruit is firm a very sweet rich flavor with mildly acidic undertones that receives high scores in taste trials with dark red skin and bright red flesh. Tree has medium vigor, is self-fertile, great pollinizer and is susceptible to bacterial canker. It is a cross between Van and Newstar and is resistant to cracking & brown rot. It is very productive, and is reliably productive and uneven. It is spreading and precocious, but needs diligent annual pruning to keep it under control especially in cool and wet climates. Storage: less than one month. It originated in Summerland, British Columbia, 1993. Trademarked as Sweetheart™. C.O.V. EU 1652.
