Description
Quince Compatible. A French heirloom pear named for the Abbot who developed the cultivar in 1866. Large and elongated with yellow skin and a red blush. The flesh is white, melting, juicy, sugary and aromatic. Fireblight and scab susceptible. Low chill, and somewhat self fertile. Good pollinator for other pears. Also called Calebasse Abbé Fetel, this low chill Pear is also good for heirloom. The fruit is very large, very elongated, bright red on the side next the sun; flesh melting, very juicy & sugary. Tree is yes and is susceptible to Fire Blight. It originated in France, 1866. Also called Abate Fatel. USDA Curator’s Choice.
